
Dr Jo Chen received her undergraduate medical degree from the University of New South Wales before training in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. After she was awarded her Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), She further advanced her training by having completed local and international fellowships in the area of inflammatory bowel disease at Concord Hospital and in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation in Vancouver, Canada. She also completed a postgraduate degree in Master of Philosophy (Medicine) in the area of inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr Chen provides comprehensive detailed consultations and endoscopy services, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy, both in the private practice and at public hospital. She is currently a VMO at Norwest Private Hospital, Strathfield Private Hospital, and Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital. Dr. Chen practices up-to-date evidence based and personalised medicine. She keeps her knowledge and endoscopy skills uptodate by regularly attending both local and international conferences.
Dr Chen provides care for patients in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the digestive and gastro-intestinal tract and liver. She is approachable and seeks clarification with a desire to understand the concerns of her patients’. Her care is empathetic which helps patients’ cope effectively with diagnosis and their illness.
Dr Chen’s areas of special interests are colorectal cancer screening, inflammatory bowel diseases, liver diseases, Helicobacter pylori infection and iron deficiency anaemia.
Dr Chen has also been involved in the training of the younger generation of doctors. She served as the Acting Director of Physician Education at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in 2018. She was also the Lead Examination Organiser and organised the annual FRACP Adult Medicine Clinical Examination at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in 2018. She continues to be involved in the education and training of the junior doctors at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital.
