Vascular Scans

The Vascular laboratory offers a wide range of vascular ultrasound imaging studies: Carotid artery study, upper and lower limb peripheral vessel studies, abdominal aorta study, renal artery study, visceral vessel study, and some other special vascular studies, e.g. bypass graft, dialysis graft and etc.

You or your doctor can contact the centre receptionist to arrange your test booking. The telephone contact number is 02 98584888

What is vascular ultrasound Imaging?
Vascular ultrasound imaging is also called Doppler or Duplex ultrasound imaging. It is a special technique to investigate both structure and blood flow of the human circulation system. It can help the physician to see and evaluate a variety of blood vessel problems, e.g. blood clots in the vein, narrowing or blockage of blood vessels.

Vascular ultrasound imaging is a safe and non-invasive method, which does not involve any ionising radiation (x ray). It uses a high frequency sound waves in order to visualise your blood vessel and thus assess any of your blood vessel damage or blood flow problem.

Most of vascular ultrasound examinations are painless, fast and easy. You will lie down on a scanning table just next to an ultrasound machine. A clear gel is applied to the area to be examined in order to have a better contact between the transducer and the skin surface. The vascular sonographer will sweep the transducer back and forth to image the area of interest.

Do I need to prepare for the procedure?
Most of the examinations do not require prior preparation. However, for the investigation of abdominal blood vessels, e.g. Abdominal Aorta, renal arteries, visceral blood vessels and etc, your doctor will instruct you not to eat or drink for as many as 6 hours before your appointment
